Diamond Kitchen Matches August 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
ASIN B000KKNZ98, B000PSAQ9W and B000PS6O16 - These listings are all for the same product, except that Penny Matches is a 32 count package as opposed to 250 in the others. Diamond makes several similar boxes of matches, including the old standard Strike on Box Matches. I prefer these, the Strike Anywhere Matches, simply for convenience and portability.
125+ years of making matches and nothing's really changed - because nothing needs to. The Aspen splint that each match is made from is sturdy, the match head is non-toxic (and, yes, you ought to keep them away from kids, but at least you know it's non-toxic!) and most importantly - duds are almost unheard of. The built-in striker on the sides of the package is such a simple thing, but a huge convenience. Of course, Strike Anywhere matches don't require the box, making them excellent for camping, hiking and other outdoor needs - leave the rather delicate cardboard box at home and carry just a few in a water-tight container.
Since I "met" Diamond matches camping with parents who did Earth Day things before Earth Day existed, I've always preferred to use these, when practical, over a lighter because they're wood - they'll biodegrade. Unfortunately, because they're incredibly light and very cheap, buying them on Amazon is almost absurd: shipping costs add so much to the cost that it's ridiculous.
